Artist Statement

My work is a dialogue between different forms of self-expression, born at the intersection of life stories and everyday routine. I began creating in the backstage spaces of theater, where for 13 years I not only embodied various roles but also studied the classics of world literature. Artists who influenced my work include Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet, Édouard Manet, and the Italian Renaissance art of the 16th century. Poets who shaped my work include Alexander Pushkin, Alexander Blok, and Vladimir Mayakovsky.

In drawing and painterly graphics, I use a wide range of materials: from oil pastel and acrylic on linen canvas to dip pen, pencils, liners, and markers. In my work one can notice fleeting moments and urban chronicles, like frozen frames from an animation film or comic.

In my graphic works, sketches, and art pieces, recurring motifs often appear, reflecting the daily life of an ordinary poet. Portraits of family and friends are frequent, as is the influence of the Armenian language, ornaments, religion, music, Silver Age poetry, and the architecture of Saint Petersburg.

At present, I am working cyclically on handwritten books where poetry intertwines with illustrations and photo collages. My books are a blend of poetry, visual art, and personal memories of love, family, and close people.
