Translations of Materials on Limite

Following a discussion of Mário Peixoto’s Limite (1931) at the A. Sergeev Film Club, we are publishing translations of material from the first issue of the Brazilian journal Cine-Clube.

Full publication details: Cine-Clube: revista da Federação dos Cine-Clubes do Rio de Janeiro. Year I, no. 1, third quarter of 1960 (the cover reads Primavera 1960). The issue is devoted to Limite and brings together articles about the film, an interview, information about Mário Peixoto, and excerpts from screenplays.

These translations were prepared with automated assistance and editorial comparison against the Portuguese scans. We publish them to make this remarkable body of writing on Brazilian cinema more accessible to English-language readers.

The journal was located through the Mário Peixoto biography published by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), whose author shared scans of Cine-Clube, with thanks to Glênio Póvoas. The UFRGS page also provides a biography of Mário Peixoto, images, links to the complete journal O Fan, and an extensive bibliography; rather than duplicate it here, we direct readers to the original English article.

With all sincerity,
